Genetic Visions, Inc. Announces Illumina CSPro Certification for GoldenGate

Genetic Visions, Inc. announced recently that it has successfully completed Illumina CSPro® certification for GoldenGate, gaining entry to an elite group of Illumina genomics service providers globally. Illumina Inc., a San Diego-based company, provides leading-edge genetic analysis tools to genomics centers worldwide.

"This is our second Illumina CSPro Certification. GoldenGate allows us to design small custom assays as well as employ commercially available kits," says Dr. Mike Cowan, General Manager of Genetic Visions and Vice President of Research for Accelerated Genetics.

"The 3K BovineNetMerit assay is a GoldenGate procedure. It was introduced in September 2010 as a lower cost means to help identify the genetic potential of young dairy cattle. Beyond this other applications include, parentage confirmation and sample verification," adds Cowan. "GoldenGate complements the larger Infinium-base assays which are better suited for whole genome assessments and exploration. GoldenGate, along with Infinium certification, illustrates Genetic Visions' continued desire to address the needs of researchers and customers, today and in the future."

Illumina CSPro is the collaborative service provider partnership dedicated to ensuring the delivery of the highest-quality data available for genetic analysis applications. Illumina CSPro participants undergo a rigorous two-phase certification process that includes minimum data generation, data certification, and an on-site audit of the facility and processes.

"Illumina CSPro recognizes organizations that provide customers with industry-leading data quality and service in genetic analysis," said Karen Possemato, Illumina's Director of Corporate Marketing. "Genetic Visions in Middleton, Wis. is now a CSPro Certified Lab for GoldenGate using Illumina technology. Now that Genetic Visions is a global CSPro partner, we are excited to work with them to make it easier for researchers in Madison, Wis. and surrounding area to access the power of Illumina's genetic analysis technologies." Genetic Visions provides DNA testing services to dairy and beef cattle producers whose goal is to improve their herd genetics through DNA technologies. For over 20 years GVI has been a leader in applied research in cattle genetics and selection techniques, achieved through the production of high quality data. Genetic Visions was formed in 1988 as the research arm of Accelerated Genetics. This subsidiary corporation, wholly owned by Accelerated Genetics, is located in Middleton, Wis.
